Presented May 16, 2019 for the Zero Gravity Performance Art Workshop and Summit at Dc3 Art Projects.
The time-based artwork took place from 12 pm to 8 pm in concert with the construction workers that demolished the road that day. I performed the durational action highlighting invisible emotional labour. Through the public act of mourning, mending and relating with other people, ruptures in the fabric of the city are stitched together, embodied as social sculpture. With visible mending, items of my own and others are repaired with contrasting material over dialogue about love and reconciliation, in an effort to reclaim and heal from a legacy of trauma. The act of self care also enacts kindness towards the earth, other humans and animals.
